The Fourth Annual Team Business Program to benefit WITEF was
a Big Success - April 26, 2008
On April 26, 2008, the Girls in Technology Committee of Women in
Technology welcomed over 30 guests representing high schools from
across the Metropolitan DC area to the Fourth Annual Team Business
Event and Fundraiser simulation program. Over $7,000 was raised
to benefit WITEF. Team Business is a dynamic, hands-on business
training workshop that teaches high school girls to make sound business
decisions and helps them understand how a technically-oriented company
works.
Today, women account for only 20% of technology professionals and, in
recent years, fewer girls have pursued science and technology-related
academic studies and careers. Team Business and other Girls in Technology
programs address this gender gap and are specifically designed to spark
new interests for girls, as well as to encourage them to take advanced
science, math, and technology courses. We
thank the event sponsors.

The WIT 6th Annual “Sharing Our Success” event offered
middle and high school girls the opportunity to meet successful
women in various technology careers. Offering table-top demonstrations
and a speakers forum with questions & answers, our presenters
reinforced the theme of "Technology is not just for Geeks."
This year's event was held on Thursday, April 24th at Freddie Mac's
Park Run facility from 5:00 to 7:15 PM in McLean, Virginia.
Middle- and high-school aged girls from the Metropolitan DC area
came and met women who work with technology! They heard from women
who have combined their interest in technology with other passions—
such as art, geography, science, education, and law enforcement/security—to
achieve successful careers. There was no charge for high school
girls to attend.
