The study found that women played an important role in managing many of
the region's 100 largest charitable foundations: Eighty-five percent have
female board members, and 34 are led by women. But, it noted, an analysis
of 12,000 grants by those foundations found that only 7 percent of the
total $441 million given went to programs serving women or girls.

Women have achieved parity with men in obtaining four-year college degrees
and are more likely to work in managerial and professional careers today
than 20 years ago. However, they are not sufficiently prepared to move
into the better-paying, higher-status, and fastest-growing occupations
such as systems analysts, software designers and engineers, the study
said. It recommends more focus on advanced education for women in such
fields as science, engineering and computers.
